Collection: PALM BEACH

As a full-time resident of Palm Beach from 2003 to 2014, I never took for granted Palm Beach’s uniquely exceptional and beautiful elements.  I created the series “Palm Beach Light” because one of the most beautiful natural elements of Palm Beach are the impressive changing light conditions throughout the day. This is most apparent at sunrise, mid-morning, afternoon, sunset and at sunset plus 30 minutes. And, of course, all of this is set against the backdrop of the incredible architecture and breathtaking fauna and flora.

Through the influence of my mentor Wolf Kahn, my early painting career was as a colorist. When I wanted to find my own voice, and move away from Khan’s style, I decided that Watercolors would be my medium since it would force me to paint differently from Wolf because he painted in oils and pastels. I spent most of my painting years perfecting watercolors. I now use watercolor techniques with acrylics, creating translucent layers.

My early artistic mission was to communicate through color. I now use color as my primary mode of communication, but I evolved by adding the use of symbols, geometric abstractions, and constructions. My working is very dynamic. I seek to create beautiful paintings that evoke a feeling, or a reaction from the viewer. My paintings usually have a strong implicit philosophical message. This is often an implicit message that needs to be narratively explained, it is not intuitive. However, once this message is conveyed, it’s a powerful element of my work. Hans Hoffman famously said: “The difference between a painter and an artist is a MIND!” Rest assures every single thing I paint as an artist has an element of intellect.

The third element of my paintings is the interaction of my subconscious mind with the viewer’s. Each person may have a different experience with my paintings as his subconscious mind interacts with what is on the canvas.

The core works of the Palm Beach Light painting exhibition capture on canvas the different light conditions at five distinct times of the Palm Beach day: sunrise, 7:00 AM, 1:00 PM, sunset and sunset +30 minutes. Each of these times have an element of magic that is mentally “all inspiring” for me and my goal for these works has been to create, in color, the magic moment of each of them
